What happens?

So what happens when we are finished losing weight? Several of you are so near goal? I am wondering because I don't really know what I will do? I am sure I will have an unfill. My husband thought I would have the whole thing removed. Right now, that is a no, no, and no! I can't imagine not having the safety net holding me back from regaining. In the past I have regained so many times. But then, how long does it really last inside the body before it deteriates and needs to be replaced? How long can it stay in? I guess I will be talking to my Dr. when I see him. What are you hearing from your dr. or what are you going to do?

When will I get serious about losing weight again? I have been working out so much that I think I am in denial (again) and think I can eat whatever goes down without PBing. I am having a couple glasses of wine almost nightly. Geez. And I think that when I get on the scale it will be moving. Nope, it is not! But I feel good. I feel strong. I feel tone. But I still have 20 pounds to lose at least. Even though muscle weighs more right? And I should not look at the numbers on the scale. But I have inches from my middle that I would like to lose. Anyways, thanks for listening. I need more motivation. I think I need to go for a fill and soon. I have been putting it off for about 3 weeks now.

  1. Hi Mattsmom, I have yet to be banded (Thursday the 19th), but my Surgeon says that the band is meant to stay in forever. Unless there are complications like it slipping, or eroding into the stomach, etc, it is meant to last forever. Don't worry, you are doing great, the last 10-20 lbs are always the hardest to come off!! Now, try to remind me when I get to that point!! LOl

  2. What's happen when you reach your goal? Well, I reached my goal and gone beyond ... my new goal is to maintain and never regain the weight again. Now begins the lifelong battle of staying healthy and maintaining a healthy weight. I hope to always have the lapband. I will not have an "unfill" unless the doctor tells me otherwise. I have gained and lost weight so many times in my life. I don't want to go back down that road. I'm a happy camper these days right where I'm at and with the way the things are right now. Good luck to you and thanks for following my blog.

  3. Well on the band thing, I have a REalize band and I asked pre-op about how long it lasts. My md said it's made out of materials where it couldbe in there forever. It's made by Johnson n Johnson so they are good w/ these kind of products. And they offer numerous other products that are also meant to be in the body forever, and can withstand that.

On the goal part, I am just 36 lbs so far but I say my goal is when I feel healthy and happy. It sounds to me like you are either there or just around the corner. I wouldn't focus on the number. Have your body fat % checked by an md and then you'll know if that's more muscle or not. And with your middle, if you're content w/ everything else I'd just focus my exercise on something that helps that area more to reach the place where you are fully content. At your size, I probably wouldn't even be weighing myself anymore.

  4. Why an unfill? If you were to get an unfill when you hit goal weight, you will most likely put that weight back on. My doc said that if you have your band removed, the likelihood of regaining ALL your weight is about 100 %! Once I reach goal, I will see him once or twice a year to check in and maybe to get a slight FILL. The band is supposed to help you for as long as it can...including maintenance!

    Good questions though!

  5. Same with me, I hope to be banded for life. But I do totally get your question: what happens when losing weight is no longer a central focus?

I have been thinking that when I am done losing weight I would like to switch fixations- that sounds weird, I know. But, I'm the kind of person who likes to have a goal attached to a hobby and likes to get really "into" the things I do. So, I'm hoping that once I'm at goal my next big thing will be something physical- like getting fixated (in the good way) on long distance running, or kayaking or long distance cycling.

What about you? What do you think you'll do once you reach goal?
